Splish: Certified Green
In October 2006, the groundwork was laid to create, build and operate a new kind of hair salon. To be sure, this was no small task in the $168 Billion global hair salon industry. In October 2007, Splish Salon opened its doors in Conifer, Colorado; a quiet sleeper community in the Colorado Front Range. Splish, however, is no ordinary hair salon.
Splish is the most eco-friendly hair salon not just in Colorado, but nationwide. With two robust third party certifications, Splish is raising the bar for the hair salon industry for both environmental and social responsibility and awareness. Splish has received Platinum Certification from the National Association of Eco-Friendly Salons & Spas and received the Green Seal of Approval from Green Americas “Green Business Network”. Further to these certifications, Splish has been awarded best hair salon by the National Association of Local Small Businesses for two consecutive years. Recently, Splish has applied to become a coveted, socially and environmentally responsible, B-Corporation, once again setting itself apart from not just every other hair salon, but every other franchise company as well.
Being eco-friendly is an important step in revolutionizing this global industry and so is social responsibility. While the economy was foundering during the fall of 2008, Splish formed its own non-profit called The Splish Foundation, a registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. Its purpose is to be the vehicle by which Splish will support local, under-served non-profits wherever a Splish salon is located. The combination of environmental and social responsibility is tantamount to the mission of Splish as it begins to expand first in Colorado, then beyond.
With an aggressive goal of opening 100 Splish Salons in the next 36 months, “Splish will dominate this niche market as a part of the entire global hair salon industry” according to Splish CEO, Matt Walsh. The time has come to revolutionize the hair salon industry into a responsible industry that touches more people annually than any other in our country.
